Music Video storyboards
Storyboard evaluation...
We stuck to our storyboards as they were in greater detail and were edited on the beat of the song rather than just shots.
These became very useful to us as we were able to follow them step by step.
A few of the shots we had to change due to it not being as successful as we wanted it to be.
For example, so me of the green screen shots that are featured in our video had to go on a longer beat.

Font styles and colours for the digipak and posters for my music video
These are some of the ideas that we think would work well for our music video...
We have chosen the fonts for 'Amanda Kaletsky' (Artist) because we think its bold, eye-catching, simple and it's widely set letters.
The particualr one we are using for our cover is the first one.
This type of font is often used in films and televisions programmes that our target audience (16-24) watch.
So this would therefore help us to promote sales of the digipak because it is aimed at a very similar target audience.
We have chosen the fonts for 'Everything lies' (Song Name) because it looks like someone has wrote it and her songs especially 'Everything lies' has a meaningful message behind it.
The particualr one we are using for our cover is the second one for 'Everything lies'.
We have done this because we think its more realistic, and will help the audience to relate to the artist as it will be more believable that she wrote the lyrics herself.
Also because the font is on a slant, joined up and has a few curls in it, it gives a feminine look to the album name which will appeal to the females in our target audience of 16-24 year olds.

Green Screen practice
In the clip below there are examples of 3 different types of lighting against different backgrounds.
We have done this to see which type of lighting and which colour/texture of the background it will look the best against.
We wanted to create a 'ghostly, dreamy' effect and we wanted to be able to see female one without half her body missing.
As you will see in this short clip some parts of her are not clear to see.
We have repeated the 3 different green screen clips on different backgrounds so the sound will be repetitive but we are not focusing on sound.
We have found that using as much lighting as possible on female one, when shooting against a green screen and then layering those shots on top of a darker background gives, the best effect and won't be as noticeable to an audience.
We want to use the green screen technique in the music video.
We will use various shots and we will aim for a dark background to make it as versimilitude as possible.

Lyrics to our music video...Everything lies by Amanda Kaletsky
We have came up with many ideas that we could use in our music video.
We thought we could edit both on the beat and the lyrics and also emphasis one word such as 'LIES' and make it a subtitle in our video.
We are thinking about doing it half narrative and half performance so the audience are engaged on the music video at all times.
Lyrics…
Don't hide behind that pretty face of yours
You've got everyone believing that you would never be this deceiving, pretty eyes
I can see through all the lies you tell
That sweet exterior is what you were
And now you are becoming something new
And I can be broken just as you now seem to be
And you should go on now but it will have to be without me
Cause everything lies between you and me
You think this song is all about you
You say I've done all the changing while I'm watching all your rearranging, silly boy
You seem to constantly out do yourself
Why don't you admit that you're not fit to try to run a race against me
And I can be broken just as you now seem to be
And you should go on now but it will have to be without me
Cause everything lies between you and me
Cause everything lies between you and me
Everything lies between you and me
And I can be broken just as you now seem to be
And you should go on now but it will have to be without me
Cause everything lies
Everything lies
Everything lies between you and me

Poster analysis of Usher
http://www.new-video.de/co/usherevo.jpg
This is a poster to advertise his DVD ...evolution 8701.
It features an image of him in the centre with no top on and jeans with a belt and a slight show of his boxers.
I think this is done to show that it can be rude but also to show how hot and fit he looks.
He wears sunglasses which shows hes seen as a hard, sophisticated character within the DVD.
The name usher is in block, yellow capitals, which could show the plot of the film fits right into place at the end of the DVD.
The name of the artist (usher) contrasts with the negative colour background.
The name of the film is in white capital block letters.
This could be because he wants the name of the film to stand out from the rest.
In the bottom left of the poster, is the name of the company that has helped release the film.
In the bottom right hand corner is to make it clear for the reader that it is a dvd.
These are both in small writing but are white so they can still be seen.

Album cover analysis of Usher-Confessions
http://suriyanto.net/pics/imageskl/confessions_usher_2004_klein.jpg
The colour and what it indicates:
The album is dark colours which could show this is a dark, hurtful album.
He is wearing all black which may show hes been bad in a relationship.
The brightness within the album cover is his name being in yellow which could show he wants his name to stand out, and a rectangular shape of lights.
This might show that there is light at the end of the tunnel for him so he won't have to feel in the dark anymore.
The Positioning:
Usher (the artist) appears in the right-hand side of the album, he is enlarged from everything else featured on there so he wants to be noticed.
It looks like he is walking into the image which could indicate hes wants to walk in something better.
His name is featured in the left hand side of the album cover.
This is a clear understanding on who the artist is.
The name of the album cover...confessions, is down the left-hand side.
Expressions:
His expression on his face does not look happy.
The image is the close-up of the side of his face.
I think he wants to look upset because the album is depressing.
The Artist name:
Usher, is in yellow capital letters.
At the bottom of each letter, it is slightly dark.
This may be because the good can defeat the bad and the album is about a break-up that he has got hurt in.
The title of the song:
Confessions, is in big, blackish capital letters.
I think he has put this like this because this is his dark side that no one knew about, and hes not proud of it.
So its hidden in black because he hid it in the relationship.
Clothes:
Usher appears to be in black, i think this is due to the meaning of the album being sad and dark.
He wears a black hat.
I think this could have been done to show his 'bad boy' image.

Music video analysis of Usher-Burn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJLkWtC2Z8Q
Lyrics:
The lyrics are about a break-up.
How the artist (Usher) is in love but isn't happy in the relationship hes in.
He then ends it with the lady but soons realises he wants her back.
When you read the lyrics its clear its not going to be a fast-beat, happy song.
In each stanza there is, including the chorus, there is the word 'Burn'.
This show a clear comparison between the song name and the lyrics.
This is a good way to make the listener remember the song name.
Name of the song:
When the reader reads the name of the song...'Burn', it is not clear whether its going to be a fast or a slow song.
It is only properly understood when you hear the tune itself.
The word 'Burn' is repeated throughout the song which makes it known to the audience why it is called that.
They consider this song to be the inner thoughts of Usher.
Music:
There are two musical instruments involved in this song and these are the guitar and piano.
There is also a consatnt beat that is repeated in the background and this is voice range: A3 D5.
Ths voice range brings the whole song together without it, it would not be as addictive as it is now.
It is not edited on the beat, its edited on the lyrics.
Shots/Camera work:
The music video begins with a close up shot of the artist eyes (Usher) it then pans and cuts to the ladies eyes who he is talking to.
During this point, he is startng the song in a spoken intro.
This shows Usher is talking to the girl from his point of view.
When he begins to talk there is flashes at the end of each sentence.
I think this is done to show the lady blinking so its clear for the audience to know Usher is talking to her.
During the part Usher is talking, they use medium shots of him.
It then cuts to an image of the lady so the audience know for a fact hes talking to that lady featured.
After every sentence theres a shot that relevant to what hes just said.
This shows hes beginning to do a narrative within his music video.
Burn, is the main focus of this video and it is seen in close-up shots of his eyes where there is a flame in them, we can also see this in other vaious shots suc a a long shot where hes standing next to the car and the trees are on fire.
I think this is done to show how Usher remenisces on what him and his ex girl-friend use to do, but then when the fame comes it shows the love has burnt out.
When he is doing the narrative it always cuts to Usher singing after.
This could be done because hes in present and nt in the future and he keeps thinking that.
When he is singing, we see extreme close-up shots of his mouth.
Fades are used throughout the music video and these work well because the audienceknows when there watching there coming out of the narrative part of the video.
We hear non-diegetic sound towards the endof the video this is the cars engine.
The video then ends on a panning shot of Usher looking towards the floor in a medium-long shot.
Genre:
It is a combination of R'n'B and Ballad.
A slow-jam song and this is indicated through the musical instruments and beat that is used.
It can also be shown through the lyrics.
Clothes used in the music video:
Usher begins in a casual black and red jumper in the narrative part of the video.
This could show hes in a relaxed environment.
He then wears jeans with a white jacket and a white top.
I think they do this to show hes not in the narrative anymore.
This makes it clearer for the audience.
The lady in the video appears to be in a bikini.
This shows the sexual side of the video and how Usher misses that.
He is next featured in a balck jacket and jeans, this could show the days have changed and he still misses her.
He remains in this outfit throughout the video at this point but changes it slightly by adding a cap.
I think he does this to show he wants to hide his feeling away by putting a cap to cover them.
The Lady is featured in skinny jeans and a brown leather jacket.
This shows of her figure and makes Usher want her more.
Who the Artist is:
Usher is an American recording artist and actor.
He was first known in the 1990's.
His success has continued through out the years and he has become better everytime he released an album.
He has had various number ones and won a number of awards.

Poster analysis of Beyonce-I am Sasha Fierce
http://www.postersultan.com/posters/beyonce1poster3-2-09.jpg
This is the poster to advertise the album I am...Sasha Fierce, by Beyonce.
Its in a negative/sepia colour with Beyonce being in black.
She is dressed in black shoes, black trousers, black gloves and a black jumper with flashes of colour on it.
I think she has done this so she stands out.
Her name is centre of the shot and is in big, bold letters.
The album cover name is centre right of the poster and is in smaller bold letters than her name.
They both are coloured in a died-out colour.
She is positioned in a strong, hard, sharp way.
This could be to show she is serious about what she does.
She domineers the poster so she is advertising herself more than her album name.

Album cover analysis of Beyonce-I am...Sasha Fierce
http://lastarsmusic.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/beyonce_i_am_sasha_fierce_album_cover_1.jpg
The colour and what it indicates:
The album cover is in Black and white.
I think this is done to show that the album is not a happy, up-beat album.
Her name..Beyonce..is in a flash of white through grey writing.
I think she has ued this flash to show shes pure and innocent.
Her album name...I am Sasha Fierce, is in black.
I think this is been done so it will stand out.
The positioning:
The artist Beyonce is in the cetre of the album.
This could show she wants to be the main focus.
Her name is positioned in the bottom left-hand corner.
Whilst her album cover name is on the left side of the album and rotated.
I think she has positioned her album name like that because she doesn't want people to think her name is Sasha Fierce and she wants her name to stand out more than her album name.
Expressions:
Beyonce has a breath-taking look on her face.
I think she has done this to show her album is breath-taking.
She has a simple close-up image of her.
She wants the listeners to relate to the words in her songs and her expression show they can relate back to her.
The Artist name:
The image of the artist name...Beyonce is in black and white, in capital letters.
It has two straight lines above her name and below her name.
I think shes done this so her name stands out.
She also has a small crucifix cross above her name which could show she has a religous aspect to her album.
For example, people believe in god and she wants the listerners to believe in her songs.
It could also show how innocent she is.
You can see a small shadow of her name that is reflected.
I think this is done to show her album is in the shadow of someone else.
The title of the album:
I am...Sasha Fierce is the album name.
It is reported that her album is called this because she wants to introduce her alter-ego side.
She has it in plain black, capital letter writting.
I think this is done because she wnats it to be seen.
Clothes:
She appeares to look like she is wearing no clothes.
There is just a close-up of her shoulders and face.
She could have done this to indicate shes pure and innocent or she wants people to think about what she is feeling rather than what she is looking like.

Music video analysis of Beyonce-If i were a boy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVTyLqkez6A
Lyrics:
The lyrics to this song are about how Beyonce (artist) wishes she could be a boy, so she could teach them how to treat a woman good.
Two verses and every chorus begins with the sentence...'If i were a boy'.
I think this is done so the listener knows what she would do if she was a boy.
By repeating this sentence it makes the song name clear and it makes the listener rememeber it.
Its a very meaningful song and this is shown through listening and reading the lyrics.
The inspiration of these lyrics came from the writer...B.C Jean having a bad break up.
Name of the song:
When you read the song name...If i were a boy...the reader knows its going to refer back to reality.
It also makes the listener think this is going to be a sad, hurtful tune.
It becomes the main focus of the song and is heard throughout.
This then becomes stuck in the listeners head.
We don't see the name of the song we just hear it within the lyrics, it ca be heard in the first 20seconds of the song.
Music:
There are two musical instruments involved and these are the piano and the guitar.
Theres a constant beat which is voice range: G3-E5.
It is not edited on the beat of the song its edited on the lyrics which shos this is different to any other music video i have analysised.
Shots/Camera work:
The whole music video is in black and white.
I think they do this to show that the man who treats the woman badly has no emotion...so they use dark colours to show how cold the man was.
Various shots are used, we start of with a close-up shot of beyonce talking then it cuts to the man talking in a close-up also.
We then see long shots, medium shots and establishing shots.
I think the establishing shot is the most important because the audience gets to see the full picture on hw they manage to hurt each other.
Each shot lasts for a long time.
This is because its edited on the lyrics rather than the beat of the song.
The video is in a narrative and shows a typical day for a couple.
This is shown clearly.
A fade is used when the story changes from Beyonce treating the man bad to the man treating Beyonce bad.
This is used well and it understood clearly.
During the end of the song, the video cuts from a narrative to a close-up of Beyonce singing.
I think this is done to show she means what she is saying and because the image of beyonce is in a white background, she wants to show the emotions and hurt she has to go through whilst portraying the coldness of the man who treated her badly.
Genre:
The genre is pop.
This is shown through the musical instruments and beat of the song.
Clothes used in the music video:
The whole video is based around a couples typical day so a lot of costume is used.
During the parts where the audience sees Beyonce singing, she wears a plain, white vest top.
She could have done this so the audience thinks about her words rather than her looks.
The male is seen in a plain, black vest top at the beginning of the music video.
I think this is done to show that Beyonce and the male are equal until the role reversal happens in the video.
When the song lyrics begin to start, the costume change.
The male is in a dark coloured shirt and trousers, whilst beyonce is in a police officers outfit.
I think they dress Beyonce like this because she is seen as treating the man badly first and the police outfit fits her figure, which makes men look at her more.
During the middle of the song, she wears a casual jacket and top.
This is done to show that the scene has changed.
After this, it cuts to a shot where the couple is in a car and she is wearin a fitted black polo-neck jumper.
Whilst the boy is wearin jeans and a white top with a stripped jumper.
During the last minute in the song, the roles change and the man is wearing the fitted police outfit whilst Beyonce is wearing a baggy suit.
This then shows how the man treats Beyonce badly.
It then cuts back to the first costume of a typical white vest top for Beyonce and a typical Black vest top for the man.
I think this is done to show the events and differences that have occured in the video.
Who the artist is:
Beyonce is an American R'n'B singer, songwriter, record producer, actress and model.
Her work is know world wide and she has won award after award.
The majority of her songs have appeared in the top 10 everytime they are released.
Lyrics:

This particular poster is advertising who he is sponsored by, advertising the name of the song and advertising the artist...Neyo.
It shows an image of Neyo walking down an abandoned street.
Theres a shadowed image of him portrayed in the poster aswell.
The image is in Black and White.
With the boarder being in a dark blue colour.
This could be done to make the sponsored companys, artist name and artist song stand out.
The image of the Artist (Neyo) is slightly on a angle, so it looks like he is walking into the shot.

Album Cover analysis of Neyo-Year of the Gentlemen
http://www.gladitsnight.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/neyo_cover.jpg
The colour and what it indicates:
The colours of the album cover are dark browns and yellows and a cream.
Its an image of him looking as if he has just walked out of the door.
I think he has used typical colours to show the strength of the album and how it relates to real life.
It works well because the artist (Neyo) is clear and stands out.
The Positioning:
The Artists name and album cover name is near the top left-hand corner.
It is positioned so it fits the height of Neyo.
I think this is done to show the clear indication on who the artist is.
Neyo is positioned centre of the cover so the main focus is on him.
Neyo is looking down in the image of him, i think this could be done so it looks like it is just a random shot.
It could also show the album means a lot to him and it has a lot of emotional elements.
This image of him on his own could show his independence of the album.
Expressions:
You can't see Neyo's expression as his face is hiden by his hat and his face is looking down.
However, his body language indicates it is a sad, strong album.
The Artist Name:
Neyo's name is is large, bold, black, capital letter writing.
This stands out on the album cover which could show he wants to stand out from other artist names.
The Album cover name:
'Year of the Gentlemen' is in black, italic writing.
I think he does this to show it is a classy album.
It gives the album cover a sophisticated, mature look about it.
It is directly below the Artist name and shows the clear difference between them both.
Clothes used:
Neyo is in a smart, matchig, brown stripped suit.
This could be because he wants to show he has matured from a boy to a man.
He wears a lightly coloured hat and a dark tie which makes him look classy.

Music video analysis of Neyo-Closer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUTh3OJjWjM
Lyrics:
The lyris to Neyo-Closer are about how Neyo (the artist) has an attraction to a woman he sees and has the desire to 'Come Closer'.
His feelings for this woman become grater as he gets towards the end of the songs.
The lyrics are very addictive as they have a good fast beat behind them and the same verse is repeated four times in the 4:07minute song.
When you first read the lyrics its clear the song is about a woman.
Name of the song:
The name of the song is featured within the first 10seconds of the song.
It is before you see the name Neyo.
This makes the audience aware on who the artist is and what the R'n'B song name is.
It is featured in the bottom of the right-hand corner in black, capial letter writing.
The audience sees this clearly because the imago of Neyo walking a motorbike becomes 'Closer'.
Music:
There are two specific musical instruments involved in this music video and these are a Guitar and a Piano.
The listener does not hear them until 16seconds of the song.
This builds up the song.
There is also a constant beat in the background which is produced by voice range E4-A5.
The listener hears this the first moment the song starts.
There are only two types of the same music within this song which makes this tune rememberable.
Shots/Camera Work:
Various shots are used, the mains ones are Close-ups of Neyo,Neyo and a motorbike,A motorbike and a woman, and the dancers feet.
There are also medium shots through-out the music video.
Long shots are also clear for the audience to see, these tend to be of Neyo and the dancers, these are seen in the middle of the music video.
Each shot is very quick this is because it's edited on the beat of the song.
Subtitles are used, this could be to keep the audience engaged in the video or to make the lyroics stick into the audience head, so they become closer to them.
The lighting used is black and white and this is shown in different ways throughout the video...they are mainly seen in fades.
It gives a sophisticated look to the video
Flashes are used which could indicate a fast heartbeat, as the song is about Neyo being obsessed in a woman.
There are also shots where the artist (Neyo) is a silohette and shots where there are clear white lines in the back of the shot...i think they do this to show how Neyo is trapped in love with her.
Genre:
The genre is dance-pop, house and R'n'B.
A combination of diffrent types of music makes the song unique and catchy.
Clothes used in the music video:
Neyo wears a gentle-men looking suit.
This shos the comparison of the Album and the individual song.
The clothes are black and white and are smart to casual wear.
When Neyo is in White the girl dancers are in black.
This is also shown in the footwear...when Neyo wears white trainers the dancers wear black trainers.
This could be to show the clear difference.
During one shot, Neyo wears a lined sweater, this blends in with the lined background.
I think this is done to show Neyo's heart trapped in the womans heart.
Who the artist is:
Neyo is an american, pop and R'n'B songwriter and singer.
He is been sucessful with his songs throughout Europe, hitting number ones and winning various awards.

Planning our Cd cover for our music video
We want our Cd cover to stand out.
Also we hope to have the female singer on both the front and back cover.
The title of the song will be in red to indicate love, we want it to be in either the bottom or the top of the Cd case with the name written underneath it.
The image we want will be in a shadow.
As our back image, we are hoping to get a long shot of the female, with various song names.
Another idea we had, was just have random pictures on our Cd cover front and back, to show she has mixed feelings about wanting to be with that boy.
The song we are doing is 'I wish i could have loved you more' by Candi Payne
